your Aftercare guide to protecting your new ink!

Check out the video below for some critical information about how best to care for your new tattoo!

Thanks for booking your session!

Step 1: Removing the Bandage & First Wash

  • Timing: If we applied a traditional bandage or wrap yesterday, remove it today after a maximum of 4–5 hours (unless we specifically structuralized a multi-day medical film/Second Skin wrapper for you—in which case, keep that on for the duration discussed).

  • The Wash: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before touching your tattoo. Gently wash the tattooed area using your bare hands and a mild, fragrance-free liquid soap. Wash away all surface plasma, residual ink, and ointment. Do not use a washcloth or sponge, as they harbor bacteria and are too abrasive.

  • The Dry: Gently pat the area dry with a clean, disposable paper towel. Do not rub, and do not use a fabric bath towel. Let it air-dry for 10–15 minutes.

Step 2: Moisturizing (Less is More)

  • Once the tattoo is completely dry, apply a very thin, translucent layer of a professional tattoo aftercare salve or a plain, fragrance-free lotion.

  • Crucial Rule: Your skin needs to breathe to heal. If the tattoo looks wet, glossy, or gooey after you apply your lotion, you’ve used too much. Gently dab off the excess with a clean paper towel. Repeat the wash and lotion routine 2–3 times a day.

The Initial "Do Not" List

  • Do not soak it: Showers are completely fine, but absolutely no baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, or oceans until the tattoo is fully healed.

  • Do not expose it to the sun: Keep the area covered with loose clothing when outdoors. Do not apply sunscreen to a fresh, open tattoo.

  • Keep it clean: Wear clean, loose clothing over the tattoo, and make sure you sleep on clean bedsheets tonight to minimize bacterial exposure.
